Hi guys!

So, in the process of editing, I’ve had to cut out a lot of good lines. A LOT. Even though it’s for the good of the novel, it hurts me to take out likes that I really liked for one reason or another.

So I made them into little graphics! This is my first attempt at doing graphics with quotes and I’m pretty pleased with how they came out. (This basically guarantees that, in two months, I’ll look back and die of shame at the amateurishness of them. But who cares).

Meet four perfectly good lines that had to be cut from The Infection of Elizabeth Bishop for Reasons™:

Beth remarks this at one point to display her Character Growth™.

Hmm. Maybe Winnie’s not so okay after all.

Elwyn is the powerful daemon infecting Winnie. Normally, a daemon like Elwyn would kill their host by accident…but Winnie seems remarkably okay. Suspicious!

This sort of sums up Beth and Winnie’s approaches to life…though when you first meet them, you might not guess it!

Since these were pretty fun, I’ll probably do more in the future. There’s no reason for those scrapped lines to languish in the dark.

  1. If I looove a sentence that I have to delete, I’ll save it in a document or notebook with a bunch of other orphan sentences for future use. If it’s not specific to a character or plot event, it could fit in another story. Do you do that as well?

    • Oh, yeah! I have a Word document with every sentence I’ve cut from my WIP in it. It’s almost 100,000 words at this point, making it longer than the actual novel 😛 I’m a word hoarder.

  2. Ruby, I absolutely love this kind of post. It kind of makes me want to it myself as I’ve recently cut out some stuff! My draft went from 98,000 words to 96,000.

    • Aww!! I’m so glad you like it 😊😊😊 Yeah I’m a total hoarder when it comes to words…I can’t bear to throw anything out. This made me feel a lot less sad about ruthlessly cutting scenes.
